IMCA - Danny Ballard went from third to the lead at the drop of the green in the 20-lap IMCA feature while behind him Danny Ody, Jim Cramer, and Kevin Buff were running three wide for the fourth position. Buff got up to the second position on lap two and one lap later he was side by side with Ballard for the lead going into turn one.

Ballard was able to hold on to the position at that point with the yellow coming out for Eric Stumpf who spun in turn four. On the restart the yellow was thrown again after Beau Ballard went over the wheel of Bob Banks Jr. and ended up in the tire barrier in turn three. Beau was done for the night at that point with front end damage.

Buff was out to a half straightaway lead by lap eight while Jim and Jeremy Cramer were up to the third and fourth positions after starting the event in the fifth and 13th spots respectively. The Cramer brothers battled side by side for the third position for two laps before Jeremy got the best of his brother Jim to take over the spot on lap 16.

Just when it looked as though Buff was going to go on to an easy win the yellow came out with one lap to go for Howard Smith who spun in turn two. On the restart Jeremy Cramer was able to get by Buff for the lead only to have the yellow come back out for Carol Parker who spun in turn two before the lap was completed and more importantly before the checkered flag was thrown.

Because the lap wasn’t completed Buff was able to restart on the point and this time on the restart he held on to the lead and went on to his first win of the season and the 10th of his career at Fonda over Danny Ballard, Jeremy Cramer, Jim Cramer, and Dennis Vrooman.

“We have been struggling this year but I think that we finally turned it around as the car was awesome tonight,” Buff said. “Thank God for the second chance on the restart because I have been having a hard time on restarts this year and I don’t think that I would have been able to get back by Jeremy again after he got by me if the yellow hadn’t come back out.”

BUDGET SPORTSMAN - Frank Corradi started on the pole and took the early lead in the 20-lap Budget Sportsman feature at the drop of the green flag. By the time lap one was completed Bill Wilder was the leader of the event after starting third while Frank Hoard III was up to the second spot by lap three after starting fifth.

Aaron Jacobs was doing double duty on Saturday evening running in both the IMCA and Budget Sportsman divisions. On lap five Jacobs was up to the third position after starting seventh while Wilder and Hoard were side by side for the lead. Coming out of turn four to complete lap eight Hoard ducked under Wilder and when they crossed the finish line to complete the lap Hoard was the new leader.

Hoard pulled away from that point on with the best race on the track now the one between Jacobs and Corradi who were side by side for the third position for many laps. As the checkered flag flew it was Hoard who went on to his third win of the season and fourth of his career at Fonda in the Budget Sportsman division with Wilder in the runner-up spot. Corradi got by Jacobs for the third position while Jacobs and Korey Wilder completed the top five.

“The 11 car (Bill Wilder) was using the bumper on the restart and he has to learn that I set the pace as the leader,” Hoard said. “I thought that I was going to bring this car home in a basket during the heat race but it got better in the feature.”

Defending IMCA Track Champion Jeremy Cramer started the event in the seventh position and by lap six was up to the third spot. After a side by side battle Cramer was able to get by Buff for second with a caution flag closing up the field on lap 10 when Howard Smith spun in turn two.

On lap 12 on the inside of turn three, Cramer was the new race leader while Jacobs was getting by both Banks and Buff for the third position. Jacobs continued his march to the front on lap 14 as he got by Ballard for the second position and quickly closed in on Cramer for the lead. On lap 16 Jacobs was able to use the outside groove which he had been using throughout the event to get by Cramer for the lead.

Jacobs pulled away from that point on to a straightaway win over Jeremy Cramer, Ballard, Buff, and Jim Cramer. For Jacobs it was his first win of the season and the fourth of his career at Fonda in the IMCA division.

“The car has been out to lunch the last few weeks,” Jacobs said in victory lane. “Tonight I was able to throw the car into the turns and it stuck and after getting beat on a restart earlier this year it wasn’t going to happen again tonight.”

The IMCA feature events have been very competitive the last couple of weeks at Fonda and Saturday night’s event was no exception as the lead changed hands many times over the last three laps of the event. Kevin Buff led at the start of the 20-lap feature while behind him cars were racing three and four wide on the front stretch to advance their positions.

An early yellow slowed the field on lap one for Danny Ballard who spun in turn three while running second. On the restart, Buff and Bob Banks Jr. rubbed nerf bars as they ran side by side down the frontstretch with Buff able to hold on to the lead.

After starting 10th, defending Track Champion Jeremy Cramer moved into the fourth position on lap five just before the yellow came out again for three time winner Beau Ballard who had some front end damage on the left front after making contact with the wall on the inside of turn four. He was done for the evening at that point.

As the field refired Cramer worked his way forward as he got by first his brother Jim and then Banks to take over the second position on lap seven with Buff now out to a four car length lead. Cramer caught the leader by lap 11 and one lap later he was side by side with Buff for the lead.

Buff held the position at that point and on lap 13 he and Cramer were nose to nose at the line to complete the lap. On lap 14 on the inside of the backstretch it was Cramer who took over the lead but the race was far from over. Yellow flags slowed the field on laps 17 & 18 with the lap 18 caution thrown for Jim Cramer and Buff after Jim Cramer made contact with Buff in turn four and the two cars spun while racing for the second position.

Defending IMCA Track Champion Jeremy Cramer went on to his first win of the season and the 12th of his career at Fonda over Banks, Danny Ody, Danny Ballard, and Jeff Jones.

“It is about time that I didn’t see any of the wrecks on the track as they were all behind me for a change,” Cramer said in victory lane. “It has been awhile since I have been here in victory lane. I have been running a brand new motor in the car all season long but we put our old motor in the car this week and tonight we were able to win.”

On the original start of the 20-lap IMCA feature Danny Ody was the leader at the drop of the green flag with the yellow coming out for Kevin Buff who spun in turn four before any laps were completed. Defending Track Champion Jeremy Cramer was collected in the wreck and on the original restart Danny Ody was the leader of the event.

On lap two on the inside of the frontstretch Jim Cramer took over the lead after starting fourth with Ody and Beau Ballard close behind. Aaron Jacobs was the man on the move from his 14th starting position as he took over the fourth position on lap eight.

Two laps later Ballard and Jacobs both got by Ody for the second and third positions with Jacobs getting by Jim Cramer for the lead on lap 14 on the outside of turn four bringing Ballard with him for second.

On the inside of the backstretch on lap 19 Jim Cramer took the lead back as he was running the inside of the speedway while Jacobs was running around the outside. The top six were side by side in rows of three on the final lap with positions being switched many times before the checkered flag fell.

At the finish it was Jim Cramer who won his first race of the season and the second of his career at Fonda over Jacobs, Ballard, Ody, and Bob Banks Jr.
“I was just letting it all hang out and gave it all she had,” Cramer said in victory lane.

Jeff Jones was the early leader in the IMCA feature event from his second row starting position but it was Beau Ballard who led at the completion of lap one after starting fifth. On lap seven, Danny Ody, Bob Banks Jr., and defending Track Champion Jeremy Cramer were racing three wide for the fourth position with Cramer getting the spot.

A caution on lap 10 for Jim Cramer who stopped on the backstretch took away the straightaway advantage that Ballard had built up and on the restart he continued to lead with Kevin Buff, Jeremy Cramer, and Ody all getting by Jones for position.

Ballard proved that his first career win at Fonda a couple of weeks ago was no fluke as he took his second win of the season by a straightaway over Jeremy Cramer, Ody, Buff, and Aaron Jacobs who ended up fifth after starting 14th.

“It is pretty sweet to win here especially two in a row,” Ballard said. “I have been coming here a long time and winning at Fonda is a dream come true for me.”

Utica Rome Sportsman Feature

Outside pole sitter Casey Williams led the entire 20 lap Sportsman feature, but he held off a handful of competitors to take the win. First, Jeremy Vunk was applying the pressure then Jason Rood was the next to push Williams for the lead. Vunk and Rood took turns going for the lead until Rood went off the track on lap 19. On the restart, Brad Alger put himself into the mix as he got by Vunk at the line for the second spot as the top three were three wide for the win when the checkered flag flew. It was Alger’s third runner up finish in three events, with Vunk holding on for third. Matt Janczuk and Mike Button rounded out the top five.

The IMCA and Street Stock feature events were run before the rain started to fall with Bob Banks Jr. the leader of the 20-lap IMCA feature at the drop of the green flag from his pole position start. By the time lap two was completed, Beau Ballard and Kevin Buff were running second and third after starting third and fourth respectively.

On lap four, Ballard ducked under Banks for the lead on the inside of turn four with Buff also getting by Banks for the second position. At that point in the event Jim and Jeremy Cramer were running side by side for the fourth position in a battle of the brothers that would last a couple of laps.

Jim Cramer was finally able to clear his brother and by lap seven was challenging Banks for the third position. The Cramer brothers both got by Banks for the third and fourth positions by lap eight while Buff was able to catch Ballard and start challenging him for the lead.

On the outside of turn four on lap 13, Buff swung around the outside of Ballard for the lead but one lap later Buff was sideways in turn four bringing out the one and only caution in the event and handing the lead back to Ballard. Jeremy Cramer got by his brother Jim for the second position on the restart while Jeff Jones, Aaron Jacobs, and Danny Ballard were running nose to tail and side by side at times for the fourth position.

Beau Ballard led the remaining laps to garner his first career win in the IMCA division at Fonda and was followed across the finish line by Jeremy Cramer, Jim Cramer, Danny Ballard, and Jones.

The 20-lap IMCA feature began with Danny Ballard in the lead from his outside front row starting position with Jim Cramer second. Defending Track Champion Jeremy Cramer started the event in the fifth position and was picking off cars one by one to get the third spot away from Jeff Jones on lap six.

Ballard was out to a straightaway advantage at the halfway point with Jim Cramer, Jeremy Cramer, Beau Ballard, and Jones completing the top five. Jeremy Cramer got by his brother Jim for the second position on lap 11 while Beau Ballard and Jones were side by side for the fourth position.

On the final lap Kevin Buff got by both Jones and Beau Ballard for the fourth position as Danny Ballard went on to his 21st career IMCA feature win at Fonda followed by Jeremy Cramer, Jim Cramer, Buff, and Beau Ballard.

“I wasn’t aware of how much of a lead I had but I just tried to stay steady and consistent and hold my line,” Ballard said in victory lane. “I have to thank my crew as they made four changes to the car between the heat races and the feature.”
